Twinkling Fairy Cake

Hey cake peeps!

Been a little while since we’ve shown you some cake art, huh!  The Queen of Cakes and crew have been busy with the upfit of the new shoppe AS WELL AS practicing confectionery creations! We want to share with you one of our most recent adventures in cake…

Last week, we had the pleasure of making a fairy cake for a 3-year-old’s birthday party.  It features a tree trunk with a stream running through the middle of it, a house atop the tree trunk, and of course, FAIRIES!  The coolest part about it was that we got to try a brand new technical element on this cake:  making it LIGHT UP!

Without further ado, here are some pictures of the cake as well as a VIDEO of it lighting up.  So totally unbelievably cool!

Hope you enjoyed seeing our first light-up cake!  We are so proud that it turned out so well.  The Cake Queen and Becky Phipps worked extremely hard on this cake, and their hard work totally paid off!

Have a great day!

Under the Sea

Happy Thursday, royal cake subjects!

Today, I thought it’d be nice to show you one of the Queen’s absolute favorite cakes!

First, a little back story.  One day, our friend Angie Woodberry asked the Cake Queen, “Can you make a sea turtle cake for my daughter’s 13th birthday?”  And the Queen replied, “I don’t know!  But I can try!”

(Told you it was a short back story.)

Here is the Cake Queen’s first sea turtle cake!

Sea Turtle's Face - Let Them Eat Cake! This sea turtle features a chocolate cake with cookies and cream filling and vanilla buttercream icing. Covering the sculpted cake is vanilla fondant which is hand-painted with edible food paste. The coral, sea grass and shells are all made from gum paste. The “sand” is light brown sugar.

We felt special that we were able to provide our friend Angie’s daughter with the one thing she asked for, a sea turtle birthday cake!  So proud of the Queen for trying something she had never tried before and ROCKING IT!  This is what makes cake decorating so special.  We love making people’s birthday wishes come true!

So no matter what your request may be, run it by us, and we’d love to try and make your idea out of cake!

Cheers,

Princess of Cakes

Play Ball!

Hello lovers of cake!

Today I want to show you some really cool cakes that are sports-themed!

First, we have this incredible groom’s cake for Curt Derrick and Julia Whisenhunt (now Julia Derrick).  Curt loves golf so what could be more appropriate than a golf cake for his groom’s cake?

Golf Groom's Cake - Let Them Eat Cake!

Next, we have another golf-themed groom’s cake for a couple who were married on #18 of the Harbour Town Golf Links in Hilton Head, SC.

Here is the iconic approach on #18 towards the light house.

And finally, we have this sweet baseball-themed birthday cake for a little boy who was turning thirteen!

We sure do love sports, but more than our love for sports is our love for making CAKES about sports!  There will be more to come, I’m sure!

Everything’s Coming up Daisies

Hello royal cake subjects!

It’s been a few days!  I’ll bet you’re ready to see some cake creations!

Today we’ll be highlighting a recent cake the Queen did, as well as show you some oldies-but-goodies we just can’t forget!

Today’s theme:  DAISIES!

First, let’s start with the new stuff!

Dark Chocolate Daisy Cake

This is Let Them Eat Cake!’s third daisy cake this year. It is covered in dark chocolate fondant and accented with both gerbera and shasta daisies made from gum paste.  We absolutely LOVE this cake!

Moving on to our next cake…and don’t be fooled by the “Lilly.”

Lilly Pulitzer Daisy Cake

The above cake is an interpretation of a 2011 Lilly Pulitzer fabric. The circles and bow represent the trim work that is present on most Lilly dresses.  The fondant was airbrushed in a navy edible paint. All decorative accents are made from vanilla fondant.

Next, we have another sweet 16 birthday cake!

Yellow Daisy Cake

This cake for Katie Gasque is vanilla “funfetti” with cream cheese icing. It is covered entirely with vanilla fondant and accented with gumpaste bow and daisies.

And finally we’ll end today with a look at one of our first cakes that featured daisies!

School Book Cake

Close-Up Daisies CakeThis school book cake features 3 chocolate cakes, 2 with chocolate buttercream icing and one with raspberry merengue buttercream icing, all covered in vanilla fondant. The apple, ruler, pencils and vase are all made of fondant. The daisies are made of gumpaste. The piping is done with royal icing.

So, there you have it!  We obviously love daisies here at
Let Them Eat Cake!
Hope you loved reading about them as much as we loved taking about them!

Cheers,

Princess of Cakes

(P.S. In the previous post, the Crosswell-Wallace cake ALSO features lots and lots of daisies!!!)
