Budget Minded Weddings
Another trend is a smaller wedding cake accented with one of 3 items:
A Dessert Bar:
A smaller wedding cake is the focal point of this table. Surrounding the wedding cake (usually positioned in the center and on a pedestal) are a variety of smaller cakes, candies, etc., offering a wide selection to suit many palates. Keep in mind that this route can quickly get out of hand, busting one’s budget, if you offer too many options!
Cupcakes:
At the top of a specially made stand is a smaller sized wedding cake. To imitate the bottom tiers of a wedding cake, the cupcakes are placed on tiers below the main cake, and decorated in the wedding colors. This is a great budget option as only the top cake has the most elaborate décor. This is a fun, contemporary option.
Sheet cakes:
Wedding cakes that serve a large number of guests can get quite expensive, depending on the design of the cake. What brides often opt for is a smaller wedding cake that is elaborately decorated, but will have sheet cakes in the kitchen. Once sliced, the caterer lines the table with the slices from the sheet cake, and they look almost the same as the slices cut from the main cake!
