The power of social media is pretty crazy; everybody knows that.  But we at Let Them Eat Cake! got to reap a really cool benefit of social media a couple of weeks ago!  Here’s the story.

A few weeks ago, a lady named Keisa Hudson was at a flower shop in Darlington, South Carolina.  Mrs. Hudson made small talk with the florist and told her that she was planning a going away party for her husband, whose job takes him out of town for several months out of the year.  Mrs. Hudson mentioned wanting an incredible over-the-top cake for her husband.  The florist, a fan of Let Them Eat Cake!, showed Mrs. Hudson our Facebook page, and immediately Mrs. Hudson was convinced she wanted us to make her husband’s cake!

Sounds normal, right?  Except Mrs. Hudson’s husband is Orlando Hudson, 2nd Baseman of the San Diego Padres!  Here’s a photo.

Soon after, we sat down with Keisa and learned all we could about Orlando so we would be able to “hit a home run” with this cake.  One interesting thing we learned was that he has been the recipient of the prestigious Golden Glove Award.  We made it with cake.

 In the interest of complying with trademark laws, we called the Padres and asked if we could reproduce their logo on our cake.  Since this cake was for one of their players, they agreed!  Here’s the logo we did!

The Hudsons graciously opened their home to us and we had the opportunity to take pictures with Orlando.  We got awesome feedback from them that the cake was both delicious and amazing.  Here’s the happy couple with their cake!
